About

Why xyzboy? There are b-boys (hip hop), and z-boys (skating / surfing). Hell, there's even an e-boy (great digital artist). It only made sense.

I never know what to call myself when it comes to what I do. I currently work as a concept artist for environments but that's only part of what I can and want to do. I've always been an illustrator at heart, but I love to create in general. Whether it's painting or sketching or modeling in 3D, I'm always happiest when I'm creating something new, or bringing some idea to life. I've actually been languishing in the field of graphic design for the past few years. I was convinced halfway through college that I'd never make any money as an illustrator, so I got my BFA in Communication Design. Don't get me wrong, I love graphic design too, but I worked my way into a very narrow aspect of it. I've worked in application development for the last 4 years as a consultant, designing User Interfaces and developing prototypes for business applications. Before that I was in interactive / web design. About 2 years ago I went back to school to learn 3D animation at DigiPen Institute of Technology. It's been a great experience, and I'm finally doing what I think I was always meant to do. With Graphic Design, I never really felt like I was creating anything... just organizing. There were exceptions of course, but that's how I felt. Games are definitely the creative outlet I've always needed, it's the ultimate venue for personal expression. People get to experience the worlds you create in an interactive way. They say you're more likely to be sucessful if you love what you do, and I love what I'm doing. I hope you enjoy my work and I look forward to reading your comments.
